Dear IDA Awards Committee:
I am pleased to write to you on behalf of the Downtown Long Beach Associates' (DLBA) Personal Data Assistant (PDA) program, as used by the Downtown Guides. As the primary organization promoting Long Beach to convention-goers, visitors, and even residents, the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (LBACVB) strives to work with community partners such as the DLBA to create an environment in which people feel safe and free to explore the many wonderful amenities of our city.
Over the past several years, the Downtown Guides have done an exemplary job of directing visitors around the Downtown and recommending great restaurants and attractions. With the PDAs, however, the Downtown Guides' service has only improved. With the recent addition of wireless synching, their information is now even more up-to-date. Visitors can also receive walking directions from exactly where they are to exactly where they need to go. Additionally, the PDAs are able to print out business contact information as well as walking directions.
It can be daunting as well as exhilarating to find oneself in a new city, with new places to explore and experiences to enjoy. The Downtown Guides' PDA program helps to ensure that visitors feel secure enough to take advantage of Long Beach's unique charm and become informed of the reasons to keep coming back to Long Beach.
I hope you will consider recognizing the DLBA's PDA program with an achievement award, for this program is a tremendous asset to the Downtown Long Beach community.
